In this phase, the index dump files are analysed to produce a list of the most significant themes. By a combination of semantic and statistical analysis, a shortened list is produced. This list can be edited manually before further processing. The WordNet electronic dictionary is used to determine word senses, i.e. noun, verb, adverb or adjective. Nouns are added to the list. If a word is not in the dictionary, it is assumed to be a name and is added to the output file.
